High potential and gifted education

Various programs are offered to the students at Toukley Public School.

High potential and gifted education

A selection of students from across the school are nominated and chosen to work in small goups. The students will be provided with educational opportunities that enrich and extend high performance and gifted students, fostering a lifelong love of learning. This is based on Gagne's Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent which proposes that ‘the child progresses from giftedness (high potential) to talent (high performance) through the learning process, assisted by intra-personal and environmental factors. That is, gifts are innate abilities and talents are systematically developed skills.'

Public speaking

A selection of students from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3 will be chosen to represent Toukley Public School in Public Speaking. The speakers will participate in a variety of public speaking competitions including the Premiers Multicultural Public Speaking Competition and the local public schools competition.

Technology (Robotics)

Each week selected students from Stages 1, 2 and 3 will be given the opportunity to work with our amazing range of robotics (EV3, Make Blocks, Spheros and Bee bots) Students develop their understanding of coding through completing selected challenges that their robots have to complete.

Debating

Toukley Public School is an active participant in the Premiers Debating Challenge.

Selected students from Stage 2 and 3 plan and practice arguments and rebuttals against each other in preparation for competition.
